Karczma Zbójnicka · Zawoja, across from the Mosorny Groń lift
Our story
Karczma Zbójnicka is highland cooking in Zawoja, known for the Babiogórskie Kociołki — five separate dishes, each in its own cauldron, from lamb to vegetarian. You'll find us across from the lower Mosorny Groń lift station, at the foot of Babia Góra.
Legend has it…
The tale of Jędrek of Policzne
On a lonely clearing in the hamlet of Policzne, highwaymen once split their loot. Years later Jędrek of Policzne found a sack of treasure in the stream, washed clean of its curse. He took it to the parish priest, gave part to the church, and with the rest built an inn by the chapel of Saint John — one where every wanderer gets a full bowl and the warmth of the fire.
The full gawęda lives in Polish — the way a highland tale should be told. In short: Jędrek of Policzne built the inn by the chapel with a treasure washed clean of its curse.
The fire and the rebuilding
We burned down in 2017 and rebuilt from the ground up — from the same timber and the same stubbornness. The inn still stands, in the same place, by the same chapel.
